In researching Elk hunters success, we found that outfitters
across the west average 17-21% harvest, while non guided hunts
success average 7-12%. That is counting cows, calves, and bull
harvest for gun and bow anywhere. Our actual harvest on branch
antlered bull is over 50% at the Gilmore Ranch. Which is better than
double the average success. Expecting 50% harvest is realistic.
Every year bulls between 350 and 400 B&C are harvested or seen in
the area. Success hinges on the skill of the hunter and physical
condition, while the most important ingredient for success is the
weather and some Luck!

Elk Rifle
Often the rut is over by rifle season and we hope for wet cold
weather to keep the elk active. Still hunting, spot and stalk and
drives are the preferred methods. Hunting wild elk in their natural
habitat is perhaps the most challenging hunt in America and when
it's good -it's Great, and when it's bad it's down right sinful. We
expect half of our hunters to be calling their taxidermist again
this year. Our hunters are restricted to shooting 4x4 of better
bulls to insure good bull recruitment and mature animals for the
future. Season is October 9- November 4. Hunts are 7 days
$4500.00 per hunter with two hunters to one guide fully guided at
the Historic Gilmore Ranch
